Andy Cohen Is Going to Be a Dad Really Soon

As Andy Cohen was closing out his Watch What Happens Live Thursday night broadcast alongside his guestsReal Housewives‘ Vicki Gunvalson, Ramona Singer, NeNe Leakes, Kyle Richards and Teresa Giudice, he announced some huge news: In just six weeks, Andy Cohen is going to be a dad, which is a pretty amazing way to kick off 2019.

“I am full of so much gratitude. Tonight I want to share a little personal news of my own,” Cohen said, to preface his announcement. He went on to thank his viewers for supporting him for the last decade on his show, noting, “To the viewers at home, I call you my friends at home because we are friends.”

Cohen continued, “I’ve always tried to be as transparent as possible about my life — I overshare and expect everyone to do the same. Tonight, I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science — if all goes according to plan, in about six weeks’ time, I’m going to become a father.”

To this, the studio audience at Live erupted into cheers, and Cohen gave his thanks to “a wonderful surrogate who is carrying my future.” He continued, “Family means everything to me, and having one of my own is something that I have wanted in my heart for my entire life. Though it’s taken me longer than most to get there, I cannot wait for what I envision will be the most rewarding chapter yet.”

For those who missed the broadcast, Cohen also posted the video of his announcement on Instagram, captioning it with just three heart emojis. He did not reveal any additional details about his future child, in the broadcast or on social media, including whether he plans to raise the child solo or with a partner.

In March, sometime after his split with Clifton Dassuncao, Cohen told Entertainment Tonight that he was single and not necessarily looking to mingle. However, he added that he would be interested in “someone who’s very independent, someone who has their own thing going on,” he says. “Maybe someone who’s never seen The Real Housewives.”

Cohen has been open about his desire to become a father for several years, and the presence or absence of a parenting partner certainly shouldn’t deter him from celebrating this momentous occasion. He also seems to have many friends in his support network who will be there for him, which is a good thing. We’re thrilled about this news and wish Cohen and his expanding family all the best.
