Joanna Gaines Shares an Emotional New Year’s Post Reflecting on How Time Flies

It’s officially 2019, which means many people are reflecting on the past year and looking at the present while also wondering about the future. On New Year’s Day, Joanna Gaines shared an emotional post expressing how much time truly flies. For her, time is both a gift and a curse, but she’s going to try to embrace every single moment as time moves forward.

Next to a sweet photo of the former Fixer Upper star holding her youngest son, Crew, Gaines wrote, “It’s always been my nature to reflect on the past and linger there a while. I find myself thinking about what I will miss and how life is just moving too fast.”

Speaking of time moving at lightning speed, she revealed that 6-month-old Crew is already saying, “Mama,” and how her oldest son, Drake, will be driving in two years and then going to college in only four. “And just like that I have found myself mourning the past but now in future tense. You see what I just did there? This whole time thing can feel like a thief if you let it,” she wrote.

As easy as it is to lose herself in the past, Gaines is giving herself a challenge in 2019: She’s going to “live for now.”

“Taking in every breath, every sight, and sound and holding it dearly,” she wrote. “Not thinking about how the good ol’ days have passed us by or how the best is yet to come. But that right now, this very second, this is the gift. These are the days. These are the moments. And I’m gonna breathe them all in. If there’s pain and sorrow, or happiness and hope, let it in and then let it out.”

She also revealed she wants to enjoy the present as much as possible, saying, “I want to enjoy the now because it’s the only thing we can actually embrace. I want to hold it carefully. Hold it thoughtfully. I want to rid myself of the little distractions because I have found that these are the thieves that steal our moments and rob our days. But time, time is our most precious gift.”

Her words are something everyone should take to heart and embrace. As easy as it is to constantly reflect on the “good ol’ days,” if you do too much of that, you lose time in the present.
