Couples who cry together stay together. At least that seems to be true for one of our favorite celebrity duos, who has repeatedly gotten emotional with and about each other in interviews and public appearances as well as on their respective social media accounts. On Thursday, in an especially adorable moment together, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepardboth cried during his birthday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, when Shepard took a goofy moment and made it serious.
During an “Ask Dr. Dax” advice segment wherein Shepard wore his hilarious birthday gift from DeGeneres of Brad Pitt-covered overalls, an audience member started things off with a racy question. Then Bell, who was also in the audience, asked, “What would you recommend getting someone very special, like a spouse, for their birthday? Or how would you spoil them on their birthday?”
“In the bedroom?” Shepard quipped, referring back to the first audience question. Bell joked, “Umm, let’s say I have ‘in the bedroom’ covered. No, outside the bedroom.” She added in an especially exaggerated wink, which got a laugh from DeGeneres and several audience members.
Shepard, however, replied in an incredibly heartfelt way. He said, “I would say, ‘Please, please, please give that person love and support for 11 years, give them two beautiful baby girls, and you’re good.’”
At this point, both Shepard and Bell were crying, which Bell pointed out, “You’re crying too!”
He quipped back, “You sit down, young lady. We’ve heard enough of your questions.” He then teased that DeGeneres had to bring Bell on the show for anyone to care about his birthday, before his wife joined him onstage for a cake to mark the occasion — which, in true DeGeneres fashion, had a scary clown pop out of it that terrified everyone.

Shepard’s birthday visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show took place one day after his actual 44th birthday, which Bell celebrated with a set of sweet photos on her Instagram. “Celebrating the birth of @daxshepard (the very most special day of the year!!) With a midday couples workout,” she wrote.
All jokes aside, it seems like Shepard had a great birthday.
