In the final days leading up to The Bachelor‘s season 23 premiere on Monday, details about what to expect are beginning to emerge. ABC teased a “sinfully good” season, and from what we can tell, that’s the perfect description of what’s to come. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, new Bachelor Colton Underwood revealed that the infamous fantasy suites “changed the game” for his entire season, which has us wondering just what will happen during those overnight dates.
“It changed everything. It changed the whole direction of the show,” Underwood told ET. While the obvious assumption would be that the fantasy suites changed his status as a virgin, which has been a major focus of the marketing for season 23, he insisted, “It’s not that.”
However, Underwood did note that the reason he hasn’t yet had sex will be explained in more depth: “I think there’s a lot of people that are interested in and invested in my virginity,” he said. “Which is sort of weird, but I get it. I think you guys are going to get a lot more answers to exactly why I have remained a virgin until this point, and why I take sexual intimacy as serious as I do.”

Whatever happens on this season of The Bachelor, it sounds like intimacy might be the name of the game. Underwood told ET that fans can expect “the most emotional, most real, most raw, whatever words you want to use” season, wherein he’s just himself, expressing whatever emotions he feels.
“I’ve been the exact opposite [of emotional throughout my life],” he said. “Being an athlete and a football player, I was always taught to keep my emotions in, so I think once those floodgates came open, it was like, ‘Oh, this is awesome. I get to express myself and feel emotions and be a normal human being!'”
In the tradition of previous Bachelor contestants, Underwood did not reveal whether or not he fell in love or proposed during filming for season 23. “That’s the goal, right?” he teased. “That’s why you become the Bachelor, and I had ups and downs. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t perfect, and I knew it wasn’t going to be. But I’m exactly where I need to be in my life right now.”
The Bachelor returns with a three-hour season premiere on Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
