Thousands of fans tune in to award shows to check out which of their beloved stars will go home winners, who will make a memorable speech, if the host will bring the laughs or if something shocking or unexpected will go down (like that whole La La Land and Moonlight mishap from the 2017 Oscars). But we’re the first to admit there’s another reason to watch: the clothes. So, who ended up being the best dressed at the 2019 Golden Globes? Many of our favorite entertainers did not disappoint when it came to their choice of ensemble this year.
As expected, Nicole Kidman wowed in a slinky gown (when does she not kill it on the carpet, though?). Always the trendsetter, Julia Roberts turned heads in pants. And we couldn’t help but drop our jaws when host Sandra Oh came through with that stunner of a white gown. We don’t know about you, but we’re impressed. This year’s crop of nominees, presenters and attendees seriously turned it out. We’re looking at you, Claire Foy!
Sandra Oh
Host Sandra Oh proved that winter whites never go out of style in an asymmetrical Versace gown, complete with retro ‘do and a wrist full of eye-catching jewels.
Judy Greer
Greer ditched the dresses for a flared Alberta Ferretti tuxedo (and bow tie!) and a sleek high pony.
Caitriona Balfe
Caitriona Balfe opted for a luxe velvet fitted and flared ankle-length custom Moschino Couture gown featuring a sweet rose accent.
Rosamund Pike
Pike isn’t just a nominee for her stellar performance in A Private War — she’s a fashion risk-taker. The actor went all out in a cut-out black dress with a choker collar and topped off the futuristic look with a sparkly silver jacket worn over her shoulders.
Rachel Weisz
A nominee for The Favourite, Weisz was certainly one of our favorites of the night — wearing a black dress with white shoulder-baring ruffles.
Constance Wu
Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu was an ethereal sight to behold in a nude bodice and tulle-skirted gown. Who doesn’t love a belt that adds a pop of color?
Idris Elba
Of course Idris Elba looks good in a tux. He’s People’s Sexiest Man Alive! The dapper star and his fiancée, Sabrina Dhore, looked picture-perfect.
Chrissy Metz
This Is Us star Chrissy Metz matched her on-trend bold red lip to her bright red gown.
Emily Blunt & John Krasinski
Has this couple ever looked bad? Krasinski and Blunt are one of our fave duos in the entertainment industry, and every chance we get to see them on the carpet posing together is a dream come true.
Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts has a history of making red carpet statements. America’s sweetheart went for a chic Stella McCartney pants ensemble, and boy, did her unconventional choice pay off.
Lupita Nyong’o
Nyong’o rarely makes a fashion misstep — and her dazzling blue Calvin Klein number definitely didn’t break her perfect red-carpet-style track record.
Claire Foy
Claire Foy stole the show in a canary yellow satin Miu Miu dress. That elegant train is fit for a queen.
Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman sure doesn’t disappoint. Never one to shy from form-fitting or full-coverage, the actor shined in a maroon turtleneck Michael Kors Collection dress that hugged her like a glove.
