If you’ve ever been curious as to why Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s relationship is so strong, you’ll need to look to the lady herself. In this month’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Lopez opens up about the real secret behind her current envy-inducing romance.
Hint: It’s her. She is the key.

“For me, the relationship journey has been very up and down. But it didn’t have to do with anybody else but me — it was about me figuring out me,” Lopez explained. “Until you learn to love yourself, you can’t completely love [someone else] in a way that is pure and true.”
It took time for that life lesson to sink in for Lopez, but the results were clearly well worth waiting for.
“Once you do that, you can have relationships that are based on love and respect, that are supportive and nourishing. There’s an evolution there that had to happen for me. I feel like I’m in a better place now,” she said.
That better place just so happens to be by Rodriguez’s side in a relationship that has wooed fans the world over. The two made their red carpet debut in May 2017 and have been solid ever since. However, while Lopez adores her “two amazing kids and a great boyfriend,” she’s also quick to offer a disclaimer.
“I don’t have everything figured out, and everything isn’t perfect,” she told Harper’s Bazaar, adding, “But I feel very proud with all the things I’ve gone through in my personal life, I’m still optimistic and hopeful.”

In the past, Lopez has endured the scrutiny that comes with high-profile relationships thanks to public breakups with Sean “Diddy” Combs, Ben Affleck, Marc Anthony and Casper Smart.
Lopez’s best friend, Leah Remini, (in her new movie Second Act and in real life) agrees that Lopez’s home life at the moment — imperfect though it may be — is inspiring to see from the outside in, saying, “She’s ecstatically happy, and the family meld that’s happened, Max [Lopez’s son with Anthony] with his girls [Emme, Lopez and Anthony’s daughter, and Rodriguez’s daughters, Natasha, 14, and Ella, 10], the whole thing is amazing.”
