Game of Thrones‘ Season 8 Premiere Date Has Finally Been Announced

After much anticipation and a lot of waiting, we finally have an exact Game of Thrones season eight premiere date. On Sunday, Jan. 13, HBO officially announced the beloved drama will return for its final season on Sunday, April 14 at 9/8c. That’s right, in exactly three months, GoT fans will once again get their fill of new episodes.

In addition to the premiere date, HBO also dropped a chilling new GoT teaser. As you can watch below, the video shows the Stark children, Jon (Kit Harington), Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Arya (Maisie Williams) returning home and reuniting in their family’s crypt at Winterfell. Of course, the sneak peek doesn’t offer any new footage from the upcoming season, but it certainly sets a foreboding tone.

According to TVLine, a full-length trailer for season eight will be released sometime in the future. That’s just one more thing fans have to try to wait patiently for. Why wouldn’t the series offer up both a premiere dateand a trailer all at once? That’s just not how the drama rolls, that’s for sure.

As exciting as the premiere date news is, it’s also bittersweet, seeing as this is GoT‘s final season, which also only consists of six episodes. That said, there is also a GoT prequel for viewers to look forward to once the original drama comes to an end.

On Jan. 8, Entertainment Weekly revealed the still-untitled prequel’s cast. The show is made up of some quite talented individuals — and mainly women. They include, previously announced Naomi Watts, Georgie Henley (Lucy Pevensie in the mid-’00s Chronicles of Narnia films), Naomi Ackie (2019’s Star Wars Episode IX),Denise Gough and Sheila Atim. Furthermore, British female director S.J. Clarkson (Bates Motel and Orange Is the New Black) will direct the premiere episode.

As for the men, Josh Whitehouse (his series lead role was announced last October), Jamie Campbell Bower (Twilight), Alex Sharp (Netflix’s To the Bone), Toby Regbo (Reign) and Ivanno Jeremiah are all part of the series as well.

Unlike GoT, there is no official premiere date for the prequel just yet, though EW suspects the drama will come to the small screen sometime in 2020.

And with that, let us once again remind you that GoT season eight will officially premiere on April 14. You’d better clear your calendar, set all of the reminders needed and start planning your premiere party now, because before you know it, the HBO drama will be back in your life weekly.
