The 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards was full of surprises, from Lady Gaga’s tie with Glenn Close for best actress to Sandra Oh hanging with the Crazy Rich Asians cast. But the one moment we can’t get enough of is Laura Dern‘s Jurassic Park reunion with costar Joseph Mazzello, which Dern later posted about on Instagram and which prompted all of us into a gloriously nostalgic place.
In the post-Critics’ Choice Awards glow on Sunday, Dern took to her Instagram to show off a sweet snap of her and Mazzello, both older than they were the last time they were together in 1992 filming Jurassic Parkand having achieved a lot in their individual careers in the time since.
“#jurassicpark is alive at the #criticschoiceawards,” Dern wrote as the caption to a photo of the former costars beaming in one another’s company.
Mazzello posted the same photo to his own Instagram, writing, “Reunited with my Jurassic Park costar, the beautiful and incomparable @lauradern at the #criticschoiceawards. Highlight of my night! #JurassicPark.” We’re not crying; you’re crying!

Sadly, Dern and Mazzello were not attending the Critics’ Choice Awards on behalf of anything Jurassic Park-related (although we kinda wish there were a reason they were) but were there because they were nominated for their respective major works from 2018. For her performance in HBO’s The Tale, Dern was nominated for best actress in a movie made for TV or limited series. Meanwhile, Mazzello, one of the leads in the smash Bohemian Rhapsody, joined his costars at the award ceremony since their film had garnered three nominations: best actor for Rami Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury, best costume design and best hair and makeup.
Neither Dern nor Mazzello won any awards on Sunday night, but it doesn’t seem to have fazed them. Instead, it would seem their happy reunion was good enough to be worth any number of awards — and we honestly couldn’t agree more with that sentiment.
