Maria Shriver is one happy mama right now. While coanchoring the fourth hour of Today on Tuesday, Shriver opened up about daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger’s engagement to Chris Pratt. It’s the first time we’ve gotten to hear from Shriver about this exciting time in her daughter’s life on the morning program, and what she has to say about the engagement only confirms Schwarzenegger’s pre-wedding bliss.
Fourth-hour coanchor Hoda Kotb kicked off the Schwarzenegger-Pratt engagement discussion on Today, telling Shriver, “Everywhere we turn we see a little bit about your daughter’s engagement. So congrats to her and her new fiancé.”
Shriver replied, “She’s super-happy — and gave me very strict instructions not to talk about it. She said, ‘It’s not your moment.’ I’m like, ‘I’m clear.’ I gave her that line!”
But it sounds like this will be all that we’ll hear from Shriver about the engagement because, as Shriver lightly notes, “No one wants to hear from me. It’s not my moment. I know nothing. I say nothing,” going on to say, “She wants to have her moment.”
True to her word, Shriver isn’t spilling any information about her daughter’s engagement, per Schwarzenegger’s wishes. Don’t expect too much posting on social media. Shriver hasn’t posted so much as a celebratory photo about her daughter’s big news — but she did leave a loving comment on Pratt’s Instagram announcement about the engagement right after it happened on the weekend of Jan. 11.
“Congratulations to two loving kind caring thoughtful Spiritual people,” she wrote. “We are so happy for you[.] you are blessed as is everyone who knows you[.] yes, let’s go.”

Regardless, it’s so sweet to see that Shriver is happy for and supportive of Schwarzenegger, especially during this huge moment. We’d expect nothing less from a mom who is very close with her daughter, as we see occasionally in the public eye. It’s clear that Shriver is thrilled to cheer on her daughter from the sidelines, even if that means having to stay mum about any kind of engagement details or upcoming wedding plans per Schwarzenegger’s request. Then again, we can’t help but admit we hope Shriver breaks her promise — even just a teensy bit — because we’d love to just get a little tease about Schwarzenegger’s upcoming nuptials with Pratt.
