We can’t imagine Elle Woods being with anyone other than Emmett Richmond, so we really hope this casting works out. Luke Wilson, who starred in the first two Legally Blonde movies alongside Reese Witherspoon, told SiriusXM’s Radio Row on Friday that he wants to reprise his role for Legally Blonde 3. Since the film is slated to hit theaters next year, we hope his wish comes true soon, or it might be too late.
According to Just Jared, Wilson reportedly said, “I’d definitely be up for [returning].” However, he also said he hasn’t heard much about the film outside what’s been reported by entertainment media. “All I’ve heard is the same thing everyone else has heard, it’s that they might be doing a Legally Blonde 3. But I can’t imagine anything that would be more fun,” he said. “Reese played such a great character. I’d love to do a Legally Blonde 3.”
For those who might not recall, Wilson’s character, Emmett, is Elle’s love interest in the first two Legally Blonde movies, and honestly, he’s pretty perfect for her. He’s totally supportive of her Harvard years and stays by her side in the sequel when she decides to take on animal testing in honor of her dog, Bruiser, whose mom is a lab animal for cosmetics companies. They meet after Elle gets into Harvard in order to prove to her ex-boyfriend that she’s capable of being serious and studious, and frankly, the fact that they get together is a satisfying way to show her character growth as she learns to respect herself, her desires and her needs in a romantic relationship with an equal partner.

Witherspoon confirmed that Legally Blonde 3 was in the works last June. MGM later announced that the film will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day in 2020, making it an ideal date-night flick. We’re definitely curious about whether or not Wilson or other costars from the original films, like Selma Blair, will make an appearance in the third movie. Either way, we’re excited, but it would be great to see if Elle’s relationship with Emmett has thrived over the years since we saw them last.
In addition to reprising her role as Elle in Legally Blonde 3, Witherspoon is also set to produce under her Hello Sunshine banner alongside Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt and his Platt Productions president Adam Siegel. Writers Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, who adapted the Amanda Brown novel of the same name for the first film, will write the script.
