In case you were wondering whether or not Jennifer Lopez was relatable, fear not because we have the definitive answer for you. Yes, she’s relatable as hell. How do we know? Because during a Wednesday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Lopez shared her reaction to meeting Joanna Gaines in an adorable story to end all adorable stories.
While chatting with host Ellen DeGeneres about her recent two-year anniversary with partner Alex Rodriguez, Lopez opened up about the sweet surprise Rodriguez had planned for her. After mentioning that she is a longtime fan of HGTV’s Fixer Upper (and honestly, who isn’t a fan at this point?), Lopez went on to explain how Gaines came into her life purely by surprise.
“We got a little fixer upper next to the water, and we were like, ‘Oh, we gotta fix this up, it’s really a house that needs work,'” Lopez explained to DeGeneres. “I was like, wouldn’t it be amazing to have [Gaines] do it for us? But she doesn’t do anything outside of Waco [Texas], like nothing.”
Little did Lopez know, but Rodriguez had orchestrated it so that Gaines could actually be involved in the process of fixing up the house, and his solution was genius. One day, Rodriguez asked that Lopez come to the house they were fixing up for a meeting. “He opens up FaceTime, and it’s Joanna Gaines. And I was like, ‘Are you kidding?! Hi!’ I totally fangirled out. And she was like, ‘Hi,’ just like she is on the show.”
Are you freaking out? Because we sure are!
Lopez says that the whole surprise “really blew her away” and that she and Gaines got some time to chat, new friend to new friend, after talking about the house. “I was like, ‘Yes just help me! A little bit! Like, you don’t even have to come out here, you have the baby, how’s the baby?'” she told DeGeneres. “It was amazing.”
Amazing, in our opinion, is putting it mildly. We’d love to get a killer surprise like that. Also, as a final thought, we really hope this is the beginning of a beautiful celebrity friendship, because the idea of Lopez and Gaines teaming up in the future is just too good not to happen for real.
