Please feel free to take a break from your regularly scheduled programming of heart-shaped chocolates and Hallmark cards to appreciate something truly heartwarming: Parks and Recreation stars Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza and Rashida Jones reunited for lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 13 — a date best known to fans of the former NBC series as Galentine’s Day.
In case you need a briefer, it was Poehler’s iconic character, Leslie Knope, who came up with the concept of celebrating female friendships on the eve of Valentine’s Day. Cleverly dubbed Galentine’s Day, the holiday caught on and has since gained its own sort of cult following.
After all, who wouldn’t be all about ladies celebrating ladies? It’s like Lilith Fair, you know, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.

While Poehler’s Knope typically had to drag her girlfriends into celebrating Galentine’s Day throughout Parks and Rec’s seven seasons, the actors obviously have no qualms about spending this day — or any other — together in real life. (It was recently confirmed that the cast will be having a Parks and Rec reunion at this year’s PaleyFest in honor of the 10th anniversary of the show’s air date.)
But bringing special joy to fans hearts each year is the fact that the women of the cast continue to meet up in real life each year to honor Galentine’s Day.
This year, it was Poehler, Plaza (who played April Ludgate) and Jones (who played Ann Perkins). Plaza commemorated the moment with a snapshot of the three on Instagram, exclaiming, “Happy galentines dayyyyyy [heart emoji].”
Plaza shared a similar photo last year, with the trio then being joined by Kathryn Hahn (who played Jennifer Barkley in 11 episodes). Plaza’s message last year? “Happy Galentine’s Day. These women keep me alive.”
In the immortal words of Knope, “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it breakfast-style.”
Or, in the case of this year, lunch-style. Either way, ovaries before brovaries!
