Tim Tebow Reveals How He Pulled Off His Epic Proposal to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters

You could practically hear the hearts of fans all over the world breaking when Tim Tebow proposed to now-fiancée Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in January, thereby officially and infinitely going off the market. However, now that a bit of time has passed, fans undoubtedly relish hearing about Tebow’s happiness. And you can’t get much happier than him filling in Jimmy Fallon on his incredibly romantic marriage proposal.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tebow joked that it took “a lot of lying” to surprise Nel-Peters when he popped the question.

“Any good surprise starts out with a lot of lying,” Tebow said, laughing. “We were totally trying to not have her have any idea that I was gonna propose on this night. We were celebrating Christmas at my parents’ house, so we even had a dealership all in fake surprising my dad with a brand-new truck, but that was to throw her off the real surprise of proposing to her.”

A bait-and-switch involving an automobile? We have to hand it to Tebow; when he commits, he commits. What’s more, that wasn’t even the only part of the proposal that came as a pleasant surprise to Nel-Peters.

“We have a special song called ‘The Wedding Song’ by a South African artist — she’s from South Africa — by Matthew Mole,” Tebow divulged to Fallon, “and I get on my knee and I propose and everything and I say, ‘This would be a perfect time to listen to the song’ and I hit play on it. So we’re dancing to it and he comes from behind the arch and starts singing it in real life. She was shocked by that.”

But that still wasn’t all Tebow had in store.

“While we’re dancing… I say I have another surprise, and she turns around and her family’s there. It was just an amazing celebration. It was so cool,” Tebow confessed.

As for the ring, suffice it to say that did not disappoint either. Tebow searched high and low for just the right rock. “I had to find a diamond in South Africa because she’s my South African diamond,” he explained, adding, “and then I heard there was such a thing as an internally flawless diamond. Then I was like, ‘Shoot, now I’m paying even more but I gotta get an internally flawless diamond.”

Fellas, take note… Tebow knows how to nail a proposal.

Tebow and Nel-Peters got engaged on Jan. 9 at his family’s farm outside of Jacksonville, Florida. It was sunset, because by now we’ve clearly established that Tebow is the master of romance. Need more proof? He even custom-commissioned an arbor and bench engraved with the date the couple first met.

“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” Tebow told People about getting down on one knee. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”

While the couple hasn’t yet set a wedding date, Nel-Peters not surprisingly gushed about the impending nuptials to People, saying, “I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim.”
