On his Instagram Story on Thursday,The Bachelor star Colton Underwood explained why he left a charity event in San Diego, California, early on Wednesday. According to the reality star, he abruptly departed the Legacy Foundation Garden Party because someone allegedly “grabbed and touched [him] inappropriately” while taking pictures with people.
“San Diego. I’m sorry if you didn’t get a picture at the event last night, but at one point during the event, I was grabbed and touched inappropriately while people were throwing cameras in my face,” he posted on his Instagram story. “I am the type of person who would have stood in line for hours to make sure anyone who supported the event got a picture, but once that happened I had to do what was best for me as a human being.”
His post continued, “I didn’t sign up to be a piece of meat or a zoo animal. I hope we run into each other at another event or on the street and I can take the time to say hello. Thank you again for coming to support Legacy and the fight against CF.”
Soon after, he shared another post on his Instagram Story, which included a photo of himself at the event giving the peace sign with both hands. Despite the alleged incident, Underwood is still grateful for the event supporting his organization. The current Bachelor star launched the Legacy Foundation in 2015 as a way to aid individuals living with cystic fibrosis.
“On another note: THANK YOU so much @mavericksbeachclub & @puravidabracelets for putting on an amazing event,” he also shared on his Instagram Story.
According to E! News, the ABC dating competition series star was seen taking photos and selfies with many fans at the event. At this time, no more details have been given regarding the alleged incident, nor has Underwood or ABC made any further statements.
Based on his lengthy explanation, it seems Underwood was made to feel violated and uncomfortable, which understandably caused him to make a quick exit. It’s best to remember when meeting or seeing a celebrity in person that they are also human beings who should be respected and made to feel comfortable and safe at all times.
