Birthday girl Jennifer Aniston deserves every bit of R&R that comes her way the next few days. On Friday, eight of her closest girlfriends — including Courteney Cox, Molly Kimmel (Jimmy Kimmel’s wife) and Amanda Anka (Jason Bateman’s wife) — surprised Aniston with a belated trip to Mexico in celebration of her recent 50th. Unfortunately, their private jet lost a tire in flight after leaving Los Angeles and was forced to make an emergency landing in Ontario, California.
And it wasn’t just the emergency landing the ladies had to endure. Prior to that, the jet had to circle for several hours to burn fuel before landing. Then, once safely on the ground in Ontario, they had to sit tight on the tarmac for almost an hour while another jet was secured. Later, the new jet successfully transported the group to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Photos published by the Daily Mail show Aniston and Cox headed to a car after touchdown, presumably to take them to their resort.
Entertainment Tonight reported that a spokesperson for the FAA confirmed the story, explaining that a Gulfstream G4 lost a wheel or tire upon departure on Friday morning. The spokesperson elaborated that while the jet was able to take off without incident, the decision was made to circle nearby Ontario International Airport to burn fuel. The jet performed an “emergency” landing without incident shortly after 2 p.m.

Someone bring these women strong drinks with tiny umbrellas, stat!
Still, despite the landing snafu, Aniston seems to be, ahem, flying high these days. Last weekend, a star-studded fete was held in honor of her 50th birthday, with high-profile guests like Gwyneth Paltrow, George Clooney, Kate Hudson and even Aniston’s former husband, Brad Pitt, in attendance.
In a 2017 interview with Glamour, Aniston touched on how she envisioned her life changing — or, more to the point, not changing — when she hit this milestone birthday. “I don’t think life stops after 50. If anything, it gets more and more exciting,” she said. “For some reason, we don’t honor or pay respect to aging. It’s something that we look at as a negative, and yet every single person on this planet does it… I don’t understand why it’s not something that’s celebrated, why there’s some sort of an expiration date on who you are as a person worth watching and a story being told about you.”
