Continuing in their tradition of, well, bucking tradition, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not send their future child to a British school. However, if visions of running into Harry and Meghan in the car rider line are flashing before your eyes, hold that thought. There is an important distinction to make regarding Harry and Meghan’s American school choice for their child: The institution they are reportedly considering for the spring baby is still located in England.
According to E! News, the royal couple is said to be looking into the private, co-ed ACS Egham International School in Egham, Surrey. The ACS stands for American Community School, the former name of the educational institution. According to the school’s website, it serves more than 600 students from the ages of 4 to 18 and boasts a staff of 160 expert faculty from more than 50 countries.
Harry and Meghan “are thought to want a more diverse education for their child,” a source told E!, adding, “Meghan is also keen for her child to be fully aware of his or her American heritage.” Technically, this wouldn’t be in keeping with what the royal family has chosen to suit their children’s educational needs. William and Harry both famously attended Eton College for boys, while William and Kate Middleton’s oldest son, Prince George, currently attends Thomas’ London Day School. Both are schools British.

In addition to offering a more diverse education, ACS Egham International may appeal to Harry and Meghan for practical reasons. It is “situated on 20 acres of glorious English countryside adjoining the Royal Savill Garden,” says the school website, referencing a tract of land opposite Windsor Great Park. Since the couple has chosen to make Frogmore Cottage on Queen Elizabeth II’s Windsor estate their permanent home, the commute would be short and sweet.
As for how Meghan and Harry first came to consider the school, the Sunday Times reported that the royal couple may have gotten the inside scoop from a friend. Misha Nonoo — a U.S. fashion designer and the friend who is rumored to have introduced Meghan and Harry — attended a sister school of ACS Egham. The Sunday Times also pointed out that, while cost surely isn’t a factor in the royal family, ACS is significantly less pricey than Eton. While tuition at the latter is around $50,000 annually, an education at ACS Egham runs between $13,000 and $32,000 annually.
