We’re feeling a lot of feelings this morning because the trailer for the final season of Veepis here. Introduced by series star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who stays in character as Selina Meyer, the trailer features some great new zingers and gives us a taste for how this award-winning HBO show will wrap up.
Louis-Dreyfus is front and center in the trailer, both in footage from the final season and in a hilarious introduction for the trailer, which was posted to HBO’s Twitter account on Monday, aka President’s Day. It’s always good to see Louis-Dreyfus in Veep mode, and in the case of this final trailer premiere, we wouldn’t want it any other way. The trailer gives us a taste of Selina’s defiant attempt to win over the hearts of America a second time and ascend to the presidency once more.
The writing, as usual, is also killer. Possibly our favorite line from the trailer is Selina’s hilariously crass remark about rising to new heights as a female politician in America. “I took a dump on the glass ceiling,” she declares to Gary (played Tony Hale), which has us wondering what preceded that line to make Selina say it. If anything, this should be enough of an indicator that Veep is going to go to some wild places before it takes its final bow later in 2019.

We’ve got all the feels for this final season, and this trailer only makes us feel them even harder. Louis-Dreyfus has been our longtime fave, and seeing her fight breast cancer while filming Veep only made us love and admire her more. Louis-Dreyfus’ commitment to the show and love for her HBO family has never wavered, as evidenced by her comments to The Washington Post in 2018, when she explained that walking away from Veep wasn’t an option for her after her diagnosis.
“Oh, no,” she said. “I love making people laugh, and I love making people cry even, and I find the pursuit of a truthful performance to be deeply satisfying to my core.”
She’s not only filming Veep and taking care of herself, but she’s also been busy documenting her final months and days on the set of the show, posting to her Instagram any and all fun moments for fans to cherish. Among her most sentimental posts, Louis-Dreyfus shared a selfie while rehearsing the last episode of the final season.

It won’t be easy saying goodbye to Veep, Louis-Dreyfus or any of the other cast members, and this final trailer certainly reminded us of that. We’re gonna need a lot of time to prepare for when Veep returns for its final season on March 31 at 10:30/9:30c on HBO.
