Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Meghan (née Markle), Duchess of Sussex, became the new Holy Trinity in one perfect, iconic moment at the Brit Awards on Wednesday, and we are so here for it. Even though they weren’t able to attend Wednesday’s award ceremony, Beyoncé and Jay-Z taped an acceptance speech featuring Meghan, seen in the background as the focus of a royal portrait. Destined to become iconic, this acceptance speech video is everything, and we need to talk about it.
As reported by the BBC, the couple recreated a part of their “Apes**t” music video in which they’d posed with Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” at the Louvre museum. But this time around, the “Mona Lisa” had been swapped out for a portrait of Meghan styled as Queen Victoria.
Beyoncé also posted a still of Jay-Z and her with the Meghan portrait on Instagram, captioning it, “In honour of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas.” Dayum. Queen Bey also added, “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”

Meghan, who famously married Prince Harry last year and is now seven months pregnant, has been the target of particularly negative media recently. Laura Snapes, deputy music editor at The Guardian, wrote on Twitter that Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s choice to accept the award while including a portrait of Meghan was a “wow” moment: “Very classy, pointed support of a black woman being treated repulsively by the UK tabloids.” In a similar vein, it’s nice to see Beyoncé and Jay-Z showing their support for Meghan and helping to dispel any potentially negative press, especially during what should be such a happy time for her.
Beyoncé also thanked the British fans who helped her and Jay-Z get this award, acknowledging in the video that the fans have always been “very supportive” of them both, concluding with, “Everything is love. Thank you.”
Jay-Z then quipped, “You’re welcome,” as they turned together to face Meghan’s image, created by artist and illustrator Tim O’Brien.
Interesting to see my painting of Megan Markel behind @Beyonce and JZ for their Brit award. Congratulations to them both. https://t.co/I6jYj9Jslb

Basically, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Meghan won the 2019 Brit Awards in a very major way this week, and all we can do (and TBH, all we want to do) is bow down to them all.
