Can you believe that we, the regular folks of the world, are going to be getting not one but two original movies about maybe the cutest royal couple to ever exist? That’s right, y’all. On Thursday, it was announced that a second Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Lifetime movie is in the works. Here’s everything you need to know about the film before it hits television screens everywhere.
Entertainment Tonight was among the numerous outlets reporting on a press release from Lifetime that gave the full rundown on the upcoming second Harry and Meghan film, currently titled Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. Becoming Royal is the second film from Lifetime about the couple, following on the heels of 2018’s Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, which tracked the couple’s first meeting to their royal wedding. The film will reportedly be “pulling back the curtain to reveal the untold joys and challenges of life inside the royal family” as we follow the highs and lows of the first year of Harry and Meghan’s marriage. Lifetime has also cast two new actors to portray Harry and Meghan, herself previously an actor (credited then as Meghan Markle): Charlie Field, whose past credits include a role on U.K. TV series Poldark, and Tiffany Marie Smith, who was previously seen on The CW’s Supernatural. There’s no word on which actors have been cast to play other members of the royal family or when the film will premiere, but if we know Lifetime, then we’d hazard a guess that the film will arrive on the channel sometime later in 2019.
To put it mildly, we are beyond excited about this news and we’re trying to stay calm about it but honestly, we can’t!
If Becoming Royal is set to follow the first year of Harry and Meghan’s marriage, then the TV movie’s writers will have plenty to draw from. In the first year alone, Harry and Meghan have not only gotten married (their wedding anniversary is coming up fast on May 19), but they’ve conceived their first child (expected to arrive in April), gone on their first tour as a royal couple and attended numerous charitable and arts-related events, and Meghan has settled in as a royal, even confirming her patronages earlier in 2019. There’s so much ground to cover, and we’re curious to see what Lifetime chooses to focus on.
Stay tuned because we have a feeling Becoming Royal is going to be a major television event — when it finally premieres.
