Milo Ventimiglia Is Glad Mandy Moore Spoke Up About Her Abusive Marriage to Ryan Adams

Milo Ventimiglia is in Mandy Moore‘s corner always, whether it’s on screen in This Is Us or in real life. Earlier this week, Ventimiglia expressed support for Moore after she opened up about the abuse she allegedly endured during her marriage to her now ex-husband, musician Ryan Adams.

Us Weekly reported on Ventimiglia’s heartening comments during an Access interview. “There are things that people live through, so to be able to have a forum to discuss it and speak about it honestly, you know, I’m incredibly proud of Mandy for just being who Mandy is, which is a very giving, inspiring woman,” he said.

“And if anyone else can take away from that situation of being inspired to let someone know that they’re not alone in a feeling, it’s like, I think that’s a great thing to do,” Ventimiglia said.

Moore was one of seven women who have come forward with allegations against Adams that include varying acts of emotional and sexual abuse, which were first reported in an extensive New York Times piece on Feb. 13. Moore, who split with Adams in 2015, told the newspaper that “music was a point of control for him.” She said, “His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid- to late 20s.”

Adams refuted Moore’s claims via his lawyer. He also called Moore’s allegations “completely inconsistent with his view of the relationship,” according to the NYT report.

Other co-stars have come forward to support Moore addressing the alleged abuse publicly. Shane West, who starred with Moore in the 2002 film A Walk to Remember, told Moore via Instagram, “Warmest hug EVER to the strongest woman I know.”

Moore spoke about her marriage to Adams on the Feb. 18 episode of the WTF With Marc Maron podcast, telling host Marc Maron, “I felt like I was drowning. It was so untenable and unsustainable and I was so lonely. I was so sad. […] I knew that this wasn’t the rest of my life. I knew that this wasn’t the person I was supposed to be with. I knew that I wasn’t the person I was meant to be.”

Moore has since moved on, marrying her current husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, in November 2018. A source told Us Weekly, “Mandy’s life couldn’t be more different today. She’s married to a good man and she’s truly happy.”

We wholeheartedly support Moore’s courage, too — and it’s a joy seeing her career and personal life blossoming after she endured such a challenging decade in her life.
