When you’re in the public eye, random people on the internet feel entitled to comment on everything about you, from your career to your love life to your body. Unfortunately, many of these people don’t seem to realize (or just don’t care) that these comments are totally inappropriate and unnecessary. Some celebs just aren’t having it anymore. In the newest episode of her Off the Vine podcast, Bachelor Nation’s Kaitlyn Bristowe clapped back at body shamers on Instagram who left criticisms on a post by Scheana Marie. Bristowe also noted that people frequently shame her for her body, as well as her relationship with fellow Bachelor Nation star Jason Tartick.
“It’s unbelievable to me that someone can go on someone’s photo and comment on their weight,” Bristowe said, after Marie described being repeatedly trolled for her petite frame. “It’s not healthy for anyone,” Bristowe continued. “I get comments all the time about my weight just because I’m really tiny.”
Bristowe revealed that she gets trolling comments about other things, like her breakup with Shawn Booth. “I just got out of a relationship and in people’s minds, I’ve moved on quickly, but nobody really knows what the story was with the relationship for the last year and I’m getting hated on right now for being happy,” she explained. “You’re a happy bitch too soon.”
Marie noted that people seem ready to criticize anything. “You can save starving children in Africa and people could come after you,” she said.
Earlier in the podcast, she told Bristowe how much it hurt to have commenters say snide things about her weight. “It was like 900 comments like ‘anorexic’ or ‘too skinny.’ When did that become OK?” she said. “It’s not OK to say someone is too fat, but it’s OK to say someone is too skinny? It’s OK to make fun of them and assume I have an eating disorder, which I struggled with in college and I don’t anymore.”
This conversation goes to show that you never know what’s going on behind a photo and that words can be hurtful, even when they’re from strangers. Marie and Bristowe are the latest celebrities to speak out against body-shaming comments, and we support them fully for shining even more light on this issue.
