It’s never fun being sick, and it’s even worse when being sick holds you back. Amy Schumer is canceling her comedy tour because she’s too ill to continue. The cause, as she explained in a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, is hyperemesis gravidarum — the form of acute morning sickness that has plagued her throughout her pregnancy.
“Due to complications from hyperemesis I am not cleared to fly for the next couple of weeks,” Schumer wrote. “I am going to cancel the remainder of my tour. Refunds are available at point of purchase. The baby and I are healthy and everything looks good. But I am in my 3rd trimester and I am still nauseous all the time and vomiting. I vomit mostly every time I ride in a car even for 5 minutes. I have a pretty good attitude about it and some days I feel good for a couple hours. But mostly it’s sucks.”
In October 2018, Schumer announced that she and husband Chris Fischer are expecting their first child. In the months that followed, she has been open and (as is her way) brutally honest about some of the less desirable side effects. But the situation has clearly gotten worse in the late stages of Schumer’s pregnancy.

Schumer went on to say that she tried to power through the sickness for her fans: “I wanted to push through and do my shows. Because I hate letting people down and I love stand up and money! But more than that I have to think about my health and the baby. I know you guys get it and people are like. Bitch are you ok? Take it easy but it’s still embarrassing to have to cancel.”
While we understand where Schumer is coming from, it’s unfortunate that she feels the need to apologize. She shouldn’t feel guilty about doing what is best for her body and her baby right now. And, as her fans have proven before, they’ll stand by Schumer no matter what. In November 2018, she had to cancel her Dallas tour stop after being hospitalized due to hyperemesis. In an Instagram post at the time, she joked, “I am in the hospital. I’m fine. Baby’s fine but everyone who says the 2nd trimester is better is not telling the full story.”
Poor Schumer! We feel her pain. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and safe, complication-free birth (after all, she’s endured her fair share of problems during the pregnancy, right?).
