We’ve got some bloody good news to brighten your Wednesday — NBC just dropped their Four Weddings and a Funeral sequel trailer in anticipation of Red Nose Day on May 23. Twenty-five years after the release of the charming romantic comedy, the original cast came back together in December to film the teaser. It’s all part of Comic Relief USA’s annual campaign to end child poverty, which NBC dedicates a night of programming to each May (Red Nose Day has raised nearly $150 million since launching in 2015). Comedy and helping kids? Sign us up.
As expected, the newly minted Four Weddings and a Funeral trailer will fill you with circa-1994 nostalgia. Actors Hugh Grant (Charles), Andie MacDowell (Carrie), Kristin Scott Thomas (Fiona), James Fleet (Tom), John Hannah (Matthew), David Bower (David), David Haig (Bernard), Rowan Atkinson (Father Gerald), Rupert Vansittart (George) and more original cast members can all be seen in the short clip, reintroducing their characters and requesting “the pleasure of your company at the wedding of the year.” There’s also the promise of a few “surprise guests.” To whose wedding? That we don’t know yet.
Let’s face it; our curiosity is definitely piqued for the full premiere of the mini-sequel, which is slated to air on NBC on Red Nose Day.

Per Entertainment Weekly, who was on set for the filming of the reunion short, the cast was all too happy to reunite for the greater good. “It’s nice to be part of something for such a great cause, and also, just catching up with people after 25 years,” said Hannah. We have Richard Curtis, who also wrote 2017’s much-celebrated mini-Love Actually sequel, to thank for both the original Four Weddings and a Funeral and the new short’s screenplay.
If the teaser trailer makes you wish there was a full sequel in the works — a totally natural reaction, TBH — you’re in luck. And by you, we clearly mean all of us, because there is a sequel of sorts underway. Mindy Kaling and her co-executive producer, Matt Warburton, are bringing a limited Four Weddings and a Funeral series inspired by the original British rom-com to Hulu. The project, which was announced in 2017, will follow “four American friends — Maya (Natathalie Emmanuel), Craig (Brandon Mychal Smith), Ainsley (Rebecca Rittenhouse) and Duffy (John Reynolds) — who reunite for a fabulous London wedding.” Sounds familiar, right?
In even better news, Deadline reported in November 2018 that MacDowell has signed on to guest star on the series. Per the outlet, she will play a new character in the project, which has cast Game of Throne’s Emmanuel as its lead. The series is slated to hit Hulu sometime this year.
