Chrissy Teigen Doesn’t Like It When You Ask John Legend This Question About Her

There’s no denying she’s basically an open book, but there is one question Chrissy Teigen wants everyone to stop asking John Legend about her — and she makes a solid point too. Teigen took to Twitter on Tuesday to air her frustrations over the fact that interviewers always ply Legend for information about whether his wife runs everything she says (or, social media queen that she is, tweets) by him before making her opinions public. But FYI, Teigen isn’t a fan of this line of questioning.

The unabashedly outspoken Teigen expressed her frustration through a series of tweets, starting, “I feel like a very common question when interviewing John is basically ‘how do you deal with your wife’ and… I don’t love it.”

She continued, “It happens a lot. ‘Does she ask you if certain things are okay to say?’ It’s just very weird to me.” Not that either one of them owes anyone a response, but Teigen pointed out the answer is no.

“He doesn’t,” she wrote. “I don’t care. And he doesn’t care. End of question.”

Obviously, Legend typically has to fire off some sort of response in such interviews, lest he risk the awkwardness of dead air. While Teigen says he handles the situation well, it should really be a nonissue, in her opinion.

“He usually does the standard, ‘No… she knows what she’s doing…’ but it’s not even that,” she lamented. “It’s just that I am a different human than him? It is theeeee most common question with him. Please stop.”

The possible catalyst for Teigen’s ire may be a recent visit Legend made to The Ellen DeGeneres Show during which DeGeneres asked about Teigen’s penchant for attention-grabbing tweets (luckily, all he did was gush about how funny she is. Ya done good, Legend). Still, Teigen is quick to add that she doesn’t harbor any ill will toward anyone who has asked this without perhaps realizing how offensive it comes off.

“I’m not mad at anyone who has asked this,” she tweeted, explaining that there seems to be a double standard at play. “I get that we are very different. It happens a lot though and I’m just not very into it. You don’t ask me how I deal with watching MSNBC every night or what I do while he’s silent for a week.”

Once again, Teigen hits the nail on the head with this Twitter rant. There’s plenty to unpack here, but we’ll start with the obvious: As Teigen underscored, people are different. In relationships especially, people should hold space for each other’s differences. In that vein, do people really think Legend wasn’t aware of how outspoken Teigen was prior to marrying her? And even more to the point, who’s to say that isn’t one of the things he loves most about her? (We’re betting it is, and we don’t blame him one bit.) This much is certain: Teigen is not the kind of woman who would ask a man for permission to express her thoughts, nor should she have to. Legend gets it. Why can’t everyone else?
