A Few Key Updates on Ben Affleck, Who Is 6 Months Out of Rehab

Don’t you love a good success story? It’s always nice to see someone find their way right-side-up again, especially when they put in the work it requires to do so. And the latest status update on Ben Affleck seems to suggest he’s done just that. Six months ago, Affleck left a Malibu, California, treatment facility, where he’d spent 40 days addressing his alcohol addiction. But this week, a source told Entertainment Tonight Affleck is reportedly in a very healthy place.

“He’s doing great. Fighting and/or contending with this disease is tough. He spent a lot of focused time finding support that would help set him up for success,” the source told ET, adding that one of the strongest supporters in Affleck’s corner was and remains his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. “He and Jen have a really good relationship. He loves spending time with the kids,” the source said of the couple’s three children: Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10, and Sam, 7. In fact, it was Garner who drove Affleck to rehab on Aug. 22, 2018, despite the fact the couple had at that time been apart for nearly three years. Since they announced in 2015 that they were separating, they’ve often been photographed happily co-parenting their kids.

Garner hasn’t been the only source of support in Affleck’s life, though. On Sunday, Affleck made headlines for reportedly meeting up with ex-girlfriend Lindsay Shookus at the high-profile Los Angeles eatery Katsuya. A source told Us Weekly that former couple, who split six months ago around the time Affleck was rumored to be dating Playboy model Shauna Sexton, entered the restaurant separately but didn’t seem terribly concerned by the paparazzi documenting their unexpected reunion.

While there isn’t much more to tell about their reported sushi date, a source claimed to Us Weekly that the two have “picked up right where they left off.” The source carefully noted that Affleck and Shookus “wouldn’t exactly say [they] were totally back together,” but they’re definitely “hanging out.” What’s more, the relationship seems to be going easily this time around, which is surely important to Affleck’s sobriety.

Until either Affleck or Shookus confirms their renewed romance, all of this should clearly be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it’s encouraging to see Affleck making positive strides toward rebuilding the relationships that are most important to him.
