Kelly Clarkson Is Hosting the 2019 BBMAs & We Can’t Wait

We’re excited to see what tricks this TV host has up her sleeve this year. On Thursday, Kelly Clarkson revealed that she will return to host the Billboard Music Awards this year, following a knockout performance at the 2018 show. Clarkson took to Instagram for the announcement, where she shared a short and sweet promotional video to tell her fans and followers the news.

In the video, Clarkson plugs in two cords, an action that lights up a neon sign above her head reading, “2019 BBMAs Host.” She smiles, excited, and points to the sign, her bubbly personality shining as much as the neon lights. In her caption, Clarkson wrote, “I had so much fun hosting the @BBMAs last year, I’m doing it again! This year, we’re going to turn it up a notch. Join me LIVE Wednesday, May 1st on NBC!”

We’re super-curious to know what she means when she says she’s going to “turn it up a notch.” At last year’s show, Clarkson opened the awards ceremony with a call to action following the Santa Fe school shooting, per Entertainment Tonight. Later, she performed a medley of songs by nominated artists, including tracks from Sam Smith, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons, among others.

I had so much fun hosting the ‘Billboard Music Awards’ last year that I’m back for more,” Clarkson said in a statement. “We’re turning it up a notch this year and I can’t wait to celebrate all of my fellow amazing artists for another unforgettable night of live music.”

In addition to her successful career in music, which makes her the perfect host for the BBMAs, Clarkson has become an experienced TV host over the years. She is currently a coach on The Voice alongside Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and newcomer John Legend; later this year, she will launch her daytime talk showThe Kelly Clarkson Show.

What will Clarkson bring to this year’s BBMAs? We’ll have to wait to find out. The Billboard Music Awards air Wednesday, May 1 at 8/7c on NBC.
