Cindy Crawford Wants Daughter Kaia Gerber to Find Success as a Model on Her Own Terms

Nepotism isn’t a struggle for this mother-daughter pair. In a new interview with Net-A-Porter, Cindy Crawford opened up about both of her children becoming models. With a special focus on her daughter, Kaia Gerber, who’s walked an impressive number of runways in the last month alone, Crawford admitted that when it comes to giving her kids a leg-up, she’s not doing them any favors beyond just being their mom.

“Kaia had some advantages,” Crawford said, noting, “She is my daughter and people know that. But when people say that I bought her a cover of a magazine, I think, if I was going to buy a cover for someone, it would be me! If I could get someone into a fashion show, I would be getting it for myself.”

Plus, Gerber is apparently very determined and has been from a young age; she started doing some modeling gigs as young as thirteen, per Net-A-Porter, though her eagerness to grow her modeling career had to wait a few more years.

“It was a good thing that she couldn’t work on the runway until she was 16,” Crawford explained. “There are laws about that. After that I couldn’t really hold her back. You hope that all of the advice and guidance and role modeling that you did sticks. That’s the stage of parenting when you think, “Ok, hope you can fly!”

Of course, that doesn’t mean she isn’t super protective of both Gerber and her brother Presley Gerber, who is also a model. Crawford said, “I can’t believe how hateful people can be. As much as people put garbage on my Instagram, it doesn’t bother me. But when they do it to my kids I think, grrr. But you’re not supposed to go after [the haters]. It’s shocking. We’re becoming more immune to it because people just lash out. We have to be so politically correct in one way. If you’re not famous, you can say the most hateful stuff. God forbid you [as a celebrity] offend the wrong person.”

Crawford frequently posts photos her family, including her husband Rande Gerber, on her Instagram. The family of four attends events together like fashion awards shows and even celebrity Halloween parties, usually dressed in complementary ensembles. It makes total sense that Crawford’s kids have followed in her footsteps, and we love that she’s supportive but isn’t doing all the work for them.
