Break-ups are hard, but what comes after can sometimes be really good for us. Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe took to Instagram on Thursday, where she opened up about her feelings since splitting with her ex-fiancé Shawn Booth, how she’s felt recently about social media, and why she relies on her friends to keep her grounded. She also opened up about the things that make her happiest.
“If I’m being honest, I’ve been having (minor) anxiety the last couple nights,” Bristowe wrote, alongside a selfie taken in a car. “Nothing specific, just worried about a bunch of little things that are out of my control. I caught myself caring what other people were saying about me… People who DON’T actually care about ME. How ridiculous right? I lost a little sleep, and I even got annoyed at irrelevant BS on social media. I allowed it to ruin part of my day.”
Bristowe explained that her best friend reminded her that social media doesn’t have to have so much control over her emotions. So, she wrote, “I took a few deep breaths, put my phone down, and got lost in my book. (Best feeling ever).”
She continued, “Just wanted to share, that even though I am the happiest I’ve been in a while, I’m still human. We all are. I still have my moments, my doubts, my worries, my anxiety. But as long as I continue to have self-compassion, GRATITUDE, and self-love, I’ll continue to grow.”

In her photo, Bristowe is wearing little-to-no makeup and has her hair pulled up in a messy bun. She said that sometimes, she has to remember that it’s okay not to be done up all the time. “It’s social media that sometimes warps my thoughts of what is ‘beautiful’. (Being done up is beautiful too),” she wrote. “But what’s REALLY beautiful is happiness. And overall, I’m pretty f*ckin happy.”
Bristowe recently clapped back against body shamers on Instagram, noting that she frequently gets hateful comments for being happy since her split with Booth. However, it seems like she isn’t letting that get her down, which is admirable. We could all use a little time away from social media every now and then.
