Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez Are Engaged & Their Announcement Is So Romantic

Congrats are in order! After just over two years of dating, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are engaged. Rodriguez revealed the happy news on Saturday evening by posting an Instagram photo of him holding her hand, showing off her brand new (and oh-so enviable) emerald cut diamond ring. Rodriguez added a sweet but simple caption: “She said yes.” Lopez posted the same photo, captioning hers with a string of black heart emoji.

The reps for both stars confirmed the engagement news over the weekend. Lopez’s rep told E! News, “Jennifer and Alex are engaged!” and Rodriguez’s divulged a key detail about the engagement, telling People, “They are on vacation and got engaged today.”

Not surprisingly, congratulatory messages from the pair’s high-profile friends have already started rolling in. Hoda Kotb commented on the photo, “Whaaaaaaattttt???? Congrats!!!!!! So excited for you two xoxo.”

Olympic skier Lindsay Vonn gushed, “Congrats you two!!” and additional celebs, including Jenna Dewan, Kourtney Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Gabrielle Union-Wade and Gwen Stefani, also took to Lopez’s and Rodriguez’s Instagram comment feeds to express their joy for the newly engaged couple.

The two have been sharing romantic moments from their Bahamian vacation in Bakers Bay all week, from relaxing boat rides to being “beach bums.” But an arguably telling moment came earlier on Saturday afternoon when Rodriguez shared an excerpt from a poem called “Soulmate” to his now-deleted Instagram Story moments.

“A soulmate isn’t someone who completes you. No, a soulmate is someone who inspires you to complete yourself,” the poem reads. “A soulmate is someone who loves you with so much conviction, and so much heart, that it is nearly impossible to doubt just how capable you are of becoming exactly who you have always wanted to be.”

Since going public with their relationship, Rodriguez and Lopez have become a pop culture power couple — endearing fans with their unabashed affection and respect for each other. But more pointedly, with what appears to be their authenticity. In an interview published in December, Lopez told USA Today, “Everyone wants a fairy tale. They all want a romantic comedy, a happy ending. We all do. But it’s not a movie, even if you see us on Instagram or on the shows. We’re happy. We’re taking it day by day. And it’s great.”

Best wishes to these two for a long and happy life together of taking it day by day.
