This week, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have a new place to call home. Harry and Meghan have moved out of Kensington Palace, officially splitting royal households with Prince William, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and their three children, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 10 months.
The move has the blessing of Queen Elizabeth II, Harry and William’s grandmother, who “has agreed to the creation of a new household for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year,” according to a statement by Kensington Palace. “The household, which will be created with the support of the queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring.”
The palace statement continued, “This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for the duke and duchess’ work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage. Harry and Meghan’s offices will also shift from Kensington Palace — where Kate and William reside — to Buckingham Palace, where the Queen resides.
“Their Royal Highnesses will appoint new communications staff, who will form part of the Buckingham Palace communications team and report to The Queen’s Communications Secretary, Donal McCabe,” the statement continued. “Kensington Palace will continue to support Their Royal Highnesses until that team is in place.”
Harry and Meghan will be waking up at Frogmore Cottage from now on. The “cottage” (which commoners like us might be forgiven for mistaking for a mansion) is located in Windsor, England and is reportedly quite haunted. Frogmore was the lovely backdrop of those famous Meghan and Harry engagement photos. The couple also hosted a private wedding reception there after they married in May 2018.
