The news this week has been inundated with updates on the college admissions cheating scam that saw Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin indicted in a group of more than 40 people who allegedly participated in a bribery scam aimed at getting their children into elite universities. On Friday, E! News reported on another interesting but also totally expected aspect of this story. On Wednesday, one day after the alleged scheme made headlines, former Oakland, California teacher Jennifer Kay Toy filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against the indicted individuals, including Huffman and Loughlin.
E! reports that Toy and her son, Joshua Toy, are listed as plaintiffs in the suit, which seeks “no less than $500 billion” in damages. The lawsuit, obtained by E!, states that “Joshua applied to some of the colleges where the cheating took place and did not get in,” despite graduating high school with a 4.2 grade point average. “Joshua and I believed that he’d had a fair chance just like all the other applicants but did not make the cut for some undisclosed reason.”
Toy’s statement continues, “I’m now outraged and hurt because I feel that my son, my only child, was denied access to a college not because he failed to work and study hard enough but because wealthy individuals felt that it was OK to lie, cheat, steal and bribe their children’s way into a good college.”

According to reports, Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid bribes totaling at $500,000 to have two of their daughters designated as recruits to the University of Southern California crew team in order to ease their admission into the school, despite not participating in the sport. Meanwhile, Huffman and her husband, Shameless star William H. Macy, allegedly paid $15,000 to have their oldest daughter’s SAT scores doctored at a “controlled” testing center to ensure her admission to a university.
