Netflix has finally answered our prayers and shared with the world the season three trailer for Stranger Things is here. It’s been a long, long time coming (season two wrapped in October 2017!) but this new trailer is teasing even more adventures for our favorite Hawkins residents. Buckle up, folks, things are about to get strange.
Set to the very perfect song “Baba O’Riley” by The Who, the official trailer for Stranger Things season three is vibrant, giving us a look at 1985 in Hawkins, including glimpses at the core group of kids — Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink)— as they enter into their teens over the course of a summer. The trailer gives us a look at Eleven’s developing powers, how older teens Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Steve (Joe Keery) and Billy (Dacre Montgomery) are getting on, a possible new romance between Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) and even the opening of the new mall in Hawkins, overseen by the new mayor (played by Cary Elwes). Oh, and there’s even more demogorgons and they look even meaner than before. Yikes.
What’s on tap for this much-anticipated season? Season three of Stranger Things is set in the summer excitement just before Hawkins, Indiana’s Fourth of July bash, so of course we don’t think it’s a coincidence that season three will be ready to stream on July 4. Harbour spoke with Deadline about the upcoming season, noting that the new episodes will be just as epic as 1985’s crop of films.
“If you’re a real fan of Stranger Things and you really want to know, I would go look at the great films that were released in ’85… and just go down that list and think of the possibilities we could be going with,” he said. Google tells us that Back to the Future, Weird Science, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Goonies were all gems that year, so season three of Stranger Things will no doubt be inspired by some majorly fantastic storytelling.

Harbor also remarked, “We’re experimenting a lot this season, and we’re taking risks, and I hope that they pay off but they are risks. We’re going into territories we’ve never been to before, and it’s exciting.”
The episode titles were revealed in December 2018: “Suzie, Do You Copy?,” “The Mall Rats,” “The Case of the Missing Lifeguard,” “The Sauna Test,” “The Source,” “The Birthday,” “The Bite,” and “The Battle of Starcourt.” The logline for the season reads, “In the summer of 1985, the adventure continues.”
But are the friends all still friends? And what about the budding love between Lucas and Max? Are Steve and Nancy still together? Is Billy finally a decent human? Is Will in therapy (we hope)? What kind of new horrors on waiting on tap? And our major question: Will Hopper and Joyce finally hook up? Pleeease?
Big changes (and adventures) are coming in season three of Stranger Things, so make sure you watch it when it premieres on Netflix on July 4.
