It took a full month, but Andy Cohen finally got Priyanka Chopra to comment on rumors she had a royal falling out with close friend Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Chopra appeared on Thursday night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and took a call from a viewer who point blank grilled the newly married star. For weeks, Chopra has stayed mum on reports she skipped Meghan’s New York City baby shower because the former didn’t attend her dreamy wedding to Nick Jonas back in December.
To Cohen’s delight, Chopra shut it all down on his show. Laughing and scoffing at the question dramatically, Chopra told the caller, “Oh my God, no, it’s not true.” Well, there we have it.
Meghan’s star-studded baby shower nearly shut down the Upper East Side of Manhattan back in February as she was seen dining with celebrity friends Serena Williams, Amal Clooney, Abigail Spencer and Gayle King, among others. Talk of the shower resurfaced again on Thursday when the queen’s former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, called the whole affair “a bit over the top.”
Speaking with Us Weekly, Arbiter said, “Baby showers, it’s very much an American thing. We don’t do it here in the U.K. It was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way she got there.” Arbiter’s comments added fuel to the fire in the ongoing and unwarranted criticism of Meghan’s every move.
As for Chopra and Meghan, the two have maintained a close friendship since their initial meeting back in January 2016. In the ensuing years, the former Quantico star has spoken out in defense of Meghan many times. With a rigid royal protocol prohibiting Meghan from commenting on rumors in the press, it’s good to know she still had Chopra in her corner fighting the good fight for her.
