Kate Beckinsale hasn’t said much about her relationship to Pete Davidson since the couple was first rumored to be an item in January, but now, she’s ready to talk. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Beckinsale discussed what it was like to date Davidson and why she is brushing off all of the media scrutiny or public judgment about their relationship and Davidson specifically. Beckinsale’s latest comments only prove that she is very into her new beau and she’s not scared off just because we’re all extra interested in what’s going on.
In an interview focused on her new Amazon series The Widow, Beckinsale let the conversation turn ever so slightly towards her relationship with Davidson. Without naming him directly, the actress opened up about the scrutiny the couple currently faces on a daily basis and how it’s all so new to her.
“I’m surprised by the interest,” Beckinsale told the LA Times. “I’ve never been in this position before—never dated anybody who comes with their own bag of mischief. It’s all quite shocking, and something to get used to. I think if you liked the person less, you would bow out of it. If that were the main thrust of the relationship, there would be a problem. But it’s not.”
Of the paparazzi’s sudden interest and the interesting lengths they’re willing to go to to get a story, Beckinsale had this to say: “I’d rather not have people hiding outside my house,” she said. “It’s a little old fashioned to have a woman’s personal life [looked at like that]. It’s a little bit tired.”
Beckinsale’s comments are refreshing if only because they imply her affections for Davidson are legitimate to the point she doesn’t let the bullshit from the outside world shake her decision to date him. It’s also just incredibly great to see a strong, smart woman brushing it all off, confident in the knowledge that she knows what she wants and is happy to say dating the person she’s dating is worth every second of scrutiny.
Beckinsale and Davidson’s relationship may be new still, but Beckinsale’s comments are not the first the couple has issued in defense of their pairing. Earlier this month, Davidson quickly addressed the age gap — another reason inquiring minds are so curious about these two — during a “Weekend Update” segment on Saturday Night Live. As seen around the 3:18 mark, Davidson had this to say about his age gap with Beckinsale: “Apparently, people have a crazy fascination with our age difference, but it doesn’t really bother us.” The comedian went on to list a slew of male celebs in relationships with major age gaps, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Alec Baldwin and President Donald Trump, as a reference point for just how damn commonplace these kinds of celebrity relationships are.
And there you have it. Nothing to see here, just two celebs who are in the early stages of a relationship and loving every second of it. Let’s give them some peace and quite, okay?
