She may be well into her next chapter, but Anna Faris is still expressing some doubts about treading into old territory. Take, for example, the notion of remarriage. Although she finalized her divorce from Chris Pratt in 2018, Faris still has hesitations about getting remarried these days. And when you read her thoughts on why, it will totally make sense.
As reported by People magazine, Faris shared on divorce attorney Laura Wasser’s podcast Divorce Sucks! why she isn’t sold on the idea of marriage at this point in time and in light of being in a new relationship with Michael Barrett for over a year.
“I will say I believe in love and monogamy and I believe in the commitment with a relationship. But I do struggle, having gone through it a couple of times now, Laura, with the idea of our legal system,” Faris said, going on to say that “I struggle with that on kind of a feminist level.”
It’s easy to understand the “once bitten, twice shy” mentality Faris might have over getting remarried, regardless of how great her relationship with Barrett is at this point. Previous to her marriage to Pratt, Faris was married to Ben Indra from 2004 to 2007, with their divorce finalized in 2008. Although Faris doesn’t unpack why marriage, for her, is problematic on a feminist level, we’d be willing to guess that the idea of tying yourself legally to another person and giving up a certain level of autonomy, which comes with marriage, might be a little scary or prohibitive at this point in Faris’ life. Plus, she’s already done the marriage thing; maybe she needs a break.
Faris’ comments on getting remarried echo previous comments she has made about the idea of remarriage, wherein she shared on the Armchair Expert podcast that “I need to figure out what the purpose [of marriage] is. Is it safety for your children? Is it convention? Is it so other people respect your relationship more? For me, I’m just not quite sure where it fits. I am a romantic. I believe in a partnership, I believe in companionship. I just don’t know if I believe in a ceremony of a wedding.”
But hey, nobody has to rush to the altar, especially not Faris if she’s not ready for that or even thinking about it. Things seem to be going well for her and Barrett at this point, which is truly the only thing that matters.
