Geri Halliwell Denies Ever Hooking Up With Mel B., Calls Her Claims ‘Very Hurtful’

Over a week after the initial news broke, Spice Girls band member Geri Halliwell is responding to Melanie Brown’s claims they hooked up. Suffice it to say, Halliwell isn’t pleased with her longtime friend and fellow girl group member. In a statement issued to E! News on Monday, Halliwell has gone on record to refute the claim that she and Mel B. ever engaged in a sexual relationship of any sort.

In the statement, Halliwell’s representative insists, “It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumors again, especially on Mother’s Day [in the U.K.] of all days… She would like to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.” However, the statement also included the disclaimer that Halliwell doesn’t hold anything against Mel B. (aka Melanie Brown) and, on the contrary, looks forward to seeing her again soon.

“Moving forward, Geri can’t wait to see the girls and all the fans on tour, have an amazing time with everyone, and make some new memories,” the representative states, adding, “Geri is really grateful for your support and loyalty for so many years. She loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria.”

The alleged hookup became big news last week when The Daily Mail reported comments made by Brown during a recent Life Stories interview with Piers Morgan. While Brown initially seemed hesitant to respond to Morgan’s prodding about a possible relationship with Halliwell during the women’s Spice Girls heyday, she did eventually cop to sharing a bed… sort of. When Brown asked Morgan to qualify “doing it,” he asked if the two ever slept together. “Yeah, we all slept in a bed together, but not ‘like that,’ all of us,” she responded.

Innocuous enough, right? Only, Brown’s subsequent comments seemed to imply perhaps something more did happen with Halliwell. She went on to joke that Halliwell was going to hate her for opening up since “she’s all posh in her country house and her husband. But it’s a fact. It just happened and we just giggled at it and that was it.”

Brown did offer a caveat, though: “It was just that once. And hopefully, when Geri gets asked that, which hopefully she will after this, she won’t deny it. Because it was just a fun thing.”

Clearly, Halliwell didn’t react in the manner Brown had hoped she would. But maybe it was all just a big misunderstanding? In an interview with the Australian radio show 2Day 104.1, Brown insisted she never actually claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Halliwell.

“All five of us [slept in a bed together], we were on tour, we had all of our own hotel rooms booked but we all ended up bunking in together. That’s what girls do,” she said. “It wasn’t a big deal, we’ve known each other 20 plus years, it was just one thing that happened one night. I didn’t go into detail about it, at all.”

Fair enough! Besides, whether they hooked up is of little consequence. What is a big deal, on the other hand, is the fact that the women are reuniting with Mel C. (Sporty Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) for the Spice World Tour 2019. To quote the Spice Girls’ own lyrics, “There’s been tears along the way, but we’re still the best of friends; Never needed to pretend, ‘Cause real friendship never ends.”
