On Thursday morning, Hilaria Baldwin revealed she is pregnant with her fifth child but that, heartbreakingly, she is likely experiencing a miscarriage. Baldwin revealed the news on her Instagram and included a lengthy caption about what she was going through and why she decided to be so candid.
In an intimate photo of Baldwin cradling her belly, the mom of four began with the most heartbreaking part of the news, writing, “I want to share with you that I am most likely experiencing a miscarriage. I always promised myself that if I were to get pregnant again, I would share the news with you guys pretty early, even if that means suffering a public loss. I have always been so open with you all about my family, fitness, pregnancies…and I don’t want to keep this from you, just because it isn’t as positive and shiny as the rest.”
She continued, detailing her motivations for sharing this post and photo, which shows her in a bra and underwear and posing in profile to show her stomach: “I think it’s important to show the truth…because my job is to help people by being real and open. Furthermore, I have no shame or embarrassment with this experience. I want to be a part of the effort to normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it.”

Baldwin goes on later in the caption to detail why she is likely experiencing a miscarriage, writing, “So, this is what is going on now: the embryo has a heartbeat, but it isn’t strong, and the baby isn’t growing very much. So we wait—and this is hard. So much uncertainty…but the chances are very, very small that this is a viable pregnancy. I have complete confidence that my family and I will get through this, even if the journey is difficult.” Baldwin message sheds a new light on the harrowing reality so many expectant parents go through: waiting for news that could go either way.
As she thanks her team of professionals towards the end of the caption, Baldwin says this about her family: “My husband and my four very healthy babies help me keep it together and have the perspective of how truly beautiful life is, even when it occasionally seems ugly.”
Baldwin’s husband, Alec Baldwin, has yet to comment on his wife’s health or her pregnancy journey, although he did share in March with People magazine that Baldwin was “up for the challenge” of a fifth child, if that were to happen, while not confirming she was pregnant during that interview. The Baldwins are currently the loving parents of four young children: Carmen, 5, Rafael, 3, Leonardo, 2, and Romeo, who is less than a year old.
