It’s rare when award shows get spicy, but that’s exactly what happened when Miranda Lambert performed “Little Red Wagon” at the 2019 ACM Awards on Sunday night. Lambert may not have won an award at the ACMs, but she did win big when it came to her performance, which included a very subtle but genius bit of shade directed at her ex-husband, Blake Shelton. Oh, and the real kicker? Shelton was in the audience at the ACMs with his current partner, Gwen Stefani.
As reported by Cosmopolitan, Lambert’s subtle shade at Shelton all revolved around changing one key line in her hit song, “Little Red Wagon.” In one of the song’s original verses, Lambert sings, “Oh, you only love me for my big sunglasses/And my Tony Lomas/I live in Oklahoma/And I’ve got long, blonde hair/And I play guitar, and I go on the road.” The line about Oklahoma? Well, that refers to Shelton’s home state and the place where he and Lambert lived shortly after they got married.
Cut to Sunday night and Lambert performing on the ACMs stage. Instead of singing “I live in Oklahoma,” Lambert instead sang, “I got the hell out of Oklahoma.” What makes this moment even more incredible is that Lambert sang it with Shelton and Stefani sitting in the audience and, even better, she sang it so forcefully yet so casually that is made for excellent TV. Just watch the clip below to see what we mean.
The fact @mirandalambert actually said I got the hell out of Oklahoma 😂😂👏👏 pic.twitter.com/Kgxa2FpWk0

The heat coming off of Lambert’s shade is major and viewers took notice right away. Reactions to Lambert were pretty supportive, showing praise for her gutsiness in switching up that key lyric to make a dig at Shelton, who has been similarly shady in the past about Lambert’s rollercoaster of a romantic life.
Holy smoke show!!! @mirandalambert looks good!! 🔥🔥🔥🖤 BUT OMG her ex is in the crowd and she just shaded him by talking about getting out of Oklahoma 🙈🙈🙈 pic.twitter.com/s6bHN5zJff

It seems like the ACMs were Lambert’s time to declare that she has firmly moved on from her rocky romantic past and is focused on going forward with her new husband, Brendan McLoughlin. In fact, McLoughlin was her date on Sunday night, marking the couple’s first public outing together. Not only did Lambert look stunning in her neon green dress, but she and her new man made for one heck of a cute couple on the red carpet.

Shelton has yet to respond to Lambert’s little dig, but we would honestly love to hear his thoughts.
