If you follow any of the Kardashians on social media, you’ll know that today is a very special day: it’s True Thompson‘s first birthday! Proud mama Khloé Kardashian is updating her Instagram story with details on how they’re celebrating (spoiler: lots of gifts), but her followers are left with one big question. Will Tristan Thompson be at True’s first birthday party? Or are his past indiscretions finally too much to ignore?

Here’s what we know. On Wednesday, Thompson proved that he remains on his bullshit by posting a pensive glamour shot — on the anniversary of his (first) cheating scandal. To be crystal clear here, that’s the scandal when he was caught cheating on Kardashian two days before she went into labor. His most recent cheating scandal was just this February, when the NBA player was caught getting close with Jordyn Woods, a close family friend of the Kardashian-Jenners. While Kardashian didn’t hold back from expressing her hurt and anger this time around, she was quick to clarify that Thompson’s relationship with their daughter was more important to her than seeking public revenge. “Tristan is equally to blame but Tristan is the father of my child,” she wrote. “Regardless of what he does to me I won’t do that to my daughter.”

That seems to be on par with how Kardashian has navigated the Thompson and baby True relationship thus far. Even in the throes of the media circus surrounding Thompson’s 2018 cheating scandal, the KUWTK star kept her labor relatively drama free and allowed Thompson to be there at his daughter’s birth.
Back in March, a source told People that Kardashian was “figuring out how to get Tristan involved” in True’s upcoming birthday, but worried about the reactions from her family. “She can’t see how he can be around her family at a party,” the source continued. “Everyone is just too upset with him.” While they certainly have good reason to be, Kardashian has made it clear that she wants Thompson to have a role in True’s life, no matter how fraught things might get between the adults. And ultimately, she should be the one who gets to decide.
So, it seems highly likely that Kardashian would invite Thompson to True’s birthday — now, it just remains to be seen whether he’ll actually show up, and whether the Kar-Jenner family can keep things civil. For the sake of baby True, and the mother working hard to ensure her daughter has a father figure, I hope they can.
