Kit Harington’s Favorite Game of Thrones Scene with Rose Leslie Is So Dark

Considering he fell in love with her on the Game of Thrones set, you would think that perhaps Kit Harington’s favorite GoT scene with now-wife Rose Leslie was one of their more romantic moments. After all, their characters — Jon Snow and Ygritte, respectively — had a brief relationship onscreen. But, nope! In the latest issue of People, Harington revealed the scene he enjoyed making with Leslie the most and, well, it’s bleak.

Harington and Leslie first crossed paths on the set of Game of Thrones, sparking dating rumors as early as 2012. By 2016, they had confirmed they were together. They got engaged the following year and, in June 2018, got hitched. So, you know, it’s not a stretch to think he might favor the more tender moments in their filming history. Such is not the case, though. “I liked her death. I know, it sounds bizarre,” he confessed, elaborating that it had a lot to do with his pride in Leslie as well as the cinematography of the scene. “I thought she nailed that. And it’s the first time in Thrones that slow motion was used and I think it’s a beautiful, cradling moment as this battle is raging in the background. It was one of those incredible shots.”

In all fairness, Harington’s explanation for loving the scene so much somehow makes it sound pretty darn romantic (albeit in a tragic way).

Besides, it’s somewhat fitting that Harington’s favorite scene with Leslie is so morose since Jon and Ygritte’s love turned out to be so ill-fated. Happily, while their characters were suffering through intense upheaval — and, in Leslie’s case, eventual death — Harington and Leslie were having quite the romantic and magical experience. In a 2016 interview with Italian Vogue, he opened up about how their love story started while filming season two in Iceland. “The country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” he said. “If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.” So, while Harington might not win any brownie points for admitting he enjoyed watching his wife die on GoT, he’ll probably be just fine if he keeps reminding the world just how sweet their real story is.

And don’t forget, GoT airs Sunday nights on HBO at 9 p.m. and Harington’s Jon Snow isn’t out of the woods yet — before the final season is said and done, Leslie might get karmic retribution in watching her husband’s character die, too.
