In case you somehow managed to miss it, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just announced the full moniker of their newborn son: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. And, well, suffice it to say the internet has thoughts about Baby Sussex’s name. While it was a bit surprising the couple decided to make the announcement so soon (considering they had previously stated they would do things on their own time), no one should be surprised that the tot is trending on Twitter.
Harry and Meghan made the big reveal via their official royal Instagram account, sharing the news alongside a photo of their firstborn meeting his great-grandmother, the Queen, his great-grandfather, Prince Philip, and his grandma, Doria Ragland. Naturally, there was much speculation ahead of little Archie’s birth about what his name might be. Would it be a nod to a fellow royal? Something sentimental, perhaps? Neither, it would seem. Per CNN, the couple chose their child’s first name because they “just liked the name Archie.” Harrison literally means “son of Harry,” so that makes sense. Finally, Mountbatten-Windsor has been used by relatives of the Queen — meaning the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did squeeze a tiny royal shout-out in there somewhere.
But, judging by Twitter, many people suspect Harry and Meghan might be fans of a certain red-headed comic book (and now CW TV series) character.

Of course, the hilariously on-the-nose tweet that came from the official Archie Comics Twitter account tops ‘em all.

Although Netflix Canada comes in a close second, proposing an alternative title for the royal tyke:
Archie, Earl of Riverdale

Others pointed out that Archie might have different connotations for different generations… but they all seem to be in the TV/entertainment realm.
Generation gap personified: When you heard Baby Sussex's name was Archie, did you think All in the Family or Riverdale?

Then there were those who offered commentary on the name in general. Often to great comedic effect.

Stop saying the royal baby was named Archie after riverdale when we all know he was named after this legend from Balamory pic.twitter.com/9SEplMySMR

We think Archie is a downright adorable name for the royal baby — whether it was inspired by Archie Andrews, Archie Bunker, Archie from Balamory or, truly, just because the Duke and Duchess of Sussex dig it. In full disclosure, though, we’re fully on board with calling this kid Archiekins for the foreseeable future.
