Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown Didn’t Speak to Antoni Porowski the Whole First Season

It might be hard to believe now, but there was once a time when Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown and Antoni Porowski wouldn’t speak to each other. Brown dropped this shocking information while speaking with E!’s Justin Sylvester during an interview on Just the Sip as part of Brown’s promotional tour for his memoir, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope. Brown and Porowski seem to have a strong working relationship these days, but the way Brown tells it, these two have come a very, very long way from the early Queer Eye days.

During his chat with Sylvester, Brown opened up about his past cold war with Porowski. “My castmate from Queer Eye, Antoni, people didn’t know that we had an extreme amount of conflict. We did not talk to each other at all during season one, even though we were shooting together.”

Brown was coy to go into deep into the specifics of their “extreme conflict” but what he did divulge is truly mind-blowing because we never would have pegged these two as near-mortal enemies — which is exactly the sense you get when you hear what Brown had to say.

“On camera, it was always about that person and about creating something successful, so that was genuine,” Brown said of the pair’s working relationship at the time, going on to say, “Before we would go on camera, we would say to each other, ‘This is not about us. It’s about this person.'”

He continued, “But off camera, the minute that camera stopped rolling, ‘Girl don’t come near me.’ And vice versa, he didn’t want me to come near him.” YIKES.

Reticent to name names, Brown teased that an in-house third-party was involved in stirring up drama between the lifestyle expert and the food expert: “Our personalities got along, but then a third party got involved and once that third party got involved, he and I couldn’t even talk to each other. We were too busy hearing rumors of what this third party was spreading about both of us.”

Thankfully, these two have reconciled since discovering this third-party was the one egging the drama on, with Brown sharing, “[Antoni and I] were like, ‘Why did we just go through all those months of b.s.?'”

We’re definitely glad these two have reconciled and found a way to amicably work together because we need lots more seasons of Queer Eye with both of them in the years to come.
