The ongoing legal battle between exes Johnny Depp and Amber Heard rages on. On Tuesday, E! News reported that Depp has added more allegations of abuse to his defamation lawsuit against Heard. It’s unclear what motivated Depp to add these new claims, but they were quickly refuted by Heard via her lawyer.
In court documents obtained by E! News, Depp filed a new, extensive declaration of support to his $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard which was initially filed back in early March. In the declaration, Depp claims Heard “painted on bruises” and caused Depp “serious bodily injury.” The declaration also states Heard was allegedly under the influence of a range of “prescription amphetamines and non-prescription drugs with alcohol” and that she used a variety of weapons against him like paint thinner cans and soda cans. E! News doesn’t clarify if Depp’s newest statement points to any specific incidents where these alleged weapons or painted on bruises might have surfaced, but in regards to the latter, Depp may be referring to the bruises Heard had when she initially brought claims of abuse against Depp back in 2016.
Depp also details an alleged “prank” that Heard and her friends pulled on him, involving her “defecating” in his bed. “As a result of the years of domestic abuse I had suffered at the hands of Ms. Heard—most recently the April 21 physical attack and defecation on my bed sometime before she and her friends left the next morning—I resolved to divorce Ms. Heard,” Depp put in his declaration.
Heard fired back at Depp through her lawyer, Eric George. Emphatically rejecting Depp’s new declaration of support, Heard’s statement hints at Depp’s flailing career and sense of urgency at attempting to regain credibility as possible motivating factors for sticking with this defamation lawsuit.
“The evidence, in this case, is clear: Johnny Depp repeatedly beat Amber Heard. The increasingly desperate attempts by Mr. Depp and his enablers to revive his career by initiating baseless litigation against so many people once close to him — his former lawyers, former managers, and his former spouse — are not fooling anyone. In light of the important work done by the #TimesUp movement highlighting the tactics abusers use to continue to traumatize survivors, neither the creative community nor the public will be gaslit by Mr. Depp’s baseless blame-the-victim conspiracy theories,” the statement reads.
Heard’s statement is another move in her attempts to stop this defamation lawsuit in its tracks. In April, Heard rebutted the lawsuit with her own filing, detailing more abuse allegations in addition to the ones she has spoken of in recent years. In the filing, Heard claimed that when Depp drank, he became “a totally different person, often delusional and violent,” detailing specific incidents where this behavior allegedly occurred including a May 2014 flight wherein he “began to throw objects at [her],” “pushed a chair at [her]…yelled at [her], and taunted [her].”
It’s unclear if Depp, who has faced criticism at continuing to be hired for films even after Heard’s allegations have come to light, will get the outcome he is hoping for.
