Today in news that will make you feel old, Sasha Obama just attended her senior prom. The milestone occasion for Michelle and Barack Obama’s youngest daughter took place on Friday, May 24th at her high school in Washington, D.C. The 17-year-old looked effortlessly chic in a simple fitted black dress and it’s safe to say she takes after her style-maker mom. Not surprisingly, seeing the youngest Obama looking so grown up proved to be a lot for the good people of the internet, who grew accustomed to thinking of Sasha and her big sister Malia as little girls during the Obamas tenure in the White House.
Per W Magazine, photos of Sasha all dressed up for prom began making the rounds after someone purporting to be the cousin of Sasha’s date, Chris Milton, tweeted them out. “When your lil cousin take Sasha Obama to prom,” the since-deleted tweet allegedly read, including snapshots of Sasha and Milton, along with proud mom and sister Michelle and Malia (and, presumably, Milton’s mother and brother, too). Although Barack Obama is nowhere to be seen in the viral photos, it’s possible he simply chose to opt out of pictures. Even if he wasn’t there, though, the specter of his presence undoubtedly loomed over the date. During a 2016 interview with a North Carolina radio station, Obama commented on his daughters’ potential dating lives, laughing as he pointed out they “have Secret Service.”
So, seeing as Sasha’s dad is one of the most famous fathers on the world stage — and obviously an involved one at that — the internet had a field day reacting to the teen’s prom pictures.

Per Newsweek, Milton attends the same school as Sasha: Sidwell Friends High School in D.C. In 2018, during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Michelle revealed that the former first family had remained in the nation’s capital so that Sasha could finish out her school experience in the same place “she’s been in since second grade.” Now, the nearly 18-year-old teen is approaching her high school graduation and is reportedly eyeballing the University of Michigan as she heads off to college in the fall.
So, yep, “America’s baby sister” is all grown up (and serving looks).
