Paris Jackson Shut Down a Troll Who Said Her Dad Would Be ‘Ashamed’ of Her Drug Use

While she undoubtedly lets a lot of internet feedback slide, Paris Jackson is fighting back against the suggestion that her late father Michael Jackson would be ashamed of Paris’ drug use. When a particularly rude troll took to Twitter to call Paris a “degenerate” for smoking marijuana (not to mention claim she must also do other drugs), the 21-year-old decided to address the derogatory comment directly.

For context, Paris revealed her marijuana use when a fan asked on social media how she came up with her recipe for spaghetti grilled cheese sandwiches with mozzarella. When Paris deadpanned “marijuana”, a Twitter user with the handle @largest85 responded, “Druggie. I bet you do meth too. You dad must be ashamed of you. Degenerate.” To her credit, Paris took the time to not only respond to the troll but also to educate them. “Because an organic medicinal plant from mother earth with dozens of healing properties that is legal where I live and used to help suffering people around the world = meth. Instead of taking poisonous addictive pharmaceuticals, this incredible medicine from the earth has been prescribed to me to help with my depression, anxiety, ptsd, and insomnia,” Paris explained.

When another Twitter user insisted that Michael was able to get through his trials and tribulations without a medical marijuana prescription, Paris pointed out that she didn’t think her dad would have a problem with this type of drug use. “I didn’t when I was younger obvs but I really doubt he would have a problem with me doing it now, especially as an adult,” she said. “A very good dr prescribed it to me and it has helped me with my mental issues a lot, including helping me find peace.” She also went on to clarify that it’s not like she sits around smoking pot all day long. “I don’t do it as soon as I wake up unless it’s a rare occasion. I don’t do it when I work and I don’t do it when I drive. It’s medicine to me and not an every day thing,” she wrote.

Another acerbic user implied Paris was glamorizing anxiety and depression and that her PTSD probably comes from “not knowing what to do and how to spend daddy’s money.” Her response to them? “I wasn’t saying it was cool. I was explaining why I need it. Mental illness is a very heavy thing that needs to be taken seriously. And for the record I have 3 jobs, I take care of myself. Don’t be a dick.”

Can we say “amen” here? Poor Paris doesn’t owe anyone any explanations. It’s to her credit that she takes the time to reasonably and kindly respond to people who don’t know her life and, to be honest, aren’t treating her with respect. Her struggles with mental health have been well-documented over the years, with the most recent focus on her stint at a wellness facility earlier in the year to work on her emotional health. If she (and her doctors) found a treatment — alternative or otherwise — that helps, we applaud her for prioritizing her mental health by seeking out and sticking to whatever works.
