Famous families stay tight through thick and thin. Casey Affleck praised Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s co-parenting skills. The Oscar winner had nothing but kind words to share about his former sister-in-law.. After both Affleck brothers went through divorces in 2017 and 2018 and the younger Affleck was embattled with sexual assault allegations, Garner remained a reliable and genuine key to keeping the family together.
“Jennifer has been amazing,” the Manchester by the Sea actor told Us Weekly. “She’s just the perfect aunt. She’s so caring and sensitive and never forgets a birthday. She’s awesome.” The younger Affleck brother has two sons, Indiana, 15, and Atticus , 11, with ex-wife Summer Phoenix, the sister of actor Joaquin Phoenix. Garner and Ben Affleck were married from 2005 to 2018 and have three children together, daughter Violet, 13, and Seraphina, 10, and son Samuel, 7. Upon filing for divorce in 2017, the couple sought joint physical and legal custody of their children and have been co-parenting since.
As for how his older brother is as an uncle, Affleck shared with Us Weekly: “[He] is a really great role model for them and the way an uncle should be.” He continued, “He pops in and out and takes them to a game or just whatever.” The actor, who recently completed his second directorial effort, Light of my Life, hopes that his older brother will continue to be a positive influence on his two sons.

“You can tell your kids what to do, but they don’t really listen. They’re way more likely to be like what they see,” the younger Affleck brother shared. “They’re going to imitate you. I could tell them not to fight, but I’m going to have a much bigger impact if I’m able to stop the video when me and Ben get into a fight and resolve it.” He continued, “I try to let them see those types of things and not just be like, ‘Hey look. Ben and I are great friends. You guys should be great friends too.’”
While working on Light of my Life, Affleck used the opportunity to become closer with his sons, with both boys even offering some directorial suggestions. “When I did a read through of this movie… my son came and listened to it and afterwards he gave me a piece of paper,” Casey told Us Weekly. “I was like, ‘What’s this?’ and he had written out [on] both sides of the paper what he was thinking. It was awesome…very smart and very helpful.”
It’s no surprise filmmaking runs in the family. Maintaining a strong relationship with his former sister-in-law could prove to be beneficial for his sons, as well as the embattled actor in years to come.
