Lisa Vanderpump Is ‘Shocked’ After Mom Dies — A Year After Brother’s Suicide

Even her harshest critics would agree: Lisa Vanderpump has had an incredibly tough year. This week, news broke that Lisa Vanderpump’s mom died a year after her brother Mark’s suicide. Jean Vanderpump, Lisa’s mother, was 84. The cause of death is currently unknown. Daily Mail reports that Lisa has paused filming on her reality show, Vanderpump Rules, in the wake of the death, while the Bravo star’s reps ask  the public respect her privacy at this time. However, a rep did share with People that Vanderpump is “devastated and shocked” following her mother’s sudden death.

Vanderpump recently made waves with the decision to leave her other Bravo show, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, midway through season eight — with no plans to return for season nine.. Having been a staple of the show for nearly a decade, Vanderpump was sick of the “bullying” behavior from her castmates. Furthermore, shooting for season eight of RHOBH began two days after Vanderpump’s brother’s funeral, leaving her “emotionally depleted.” She says she was “tearful most days” filming the season and says it ultimately became “too much.”

Vanderpump’s brother Mark, a DJ, died at age 59 last April. He was found in his home in Gloucestershire, and his death was ruled a suicide. Vanderpump spoke about her loss in season even of RHOBH and how hard she found it to recover and move on with her life: “For five weeks I stayed home. Obviously, just being the two of us, we were more like twins. It’s been incredibly difficult, but we have to keep moving forward and make the people that were so important in our lives proud as they watch down over us.”

In wake of Vanderpump’s mother passing, a source offered the following statement to People. “This has hit Lisa very hard and she is shocked by her mother’s sudden death. Lisa has not had an easy past 14 months. In April of 2018 her brother Mark committed suicide rocking her family to its core,” the source shared. “One thing is for sure with Lisa though, she’s as strong as they come and once she has worked through her grief she will be back running her restaurant empire, focusing on her philanthropic endeavors and filming Vanderpump Rules.”

Knowing Lisa Vanderpump, that’s certainly true. But for now, we hope she can take the time she needs to grieve in peace.
