Thursday was the second of the Democratic Presidential debates, and it gave us a glimpse at the top contenders we’ll be seeing in the next year’s election (or not). As exciting as last night was, Saturday Night Live‘s Kate McKinnon’s impression of Marianne Williamson at the democratic debate was our highlight. Needless to say, Williamson’s debate game was interesting.
McKinnon, who’s out promoting her new movieYesterday, stopped at Late Night With Seth Meyers last night and watched the debates backstage before her interview. Laughing that “I wish there was an SNL show this week,” McKinnon took the opportunity to perform mini-impression of Williamson. The candidate, whose debate quotes included her plans to call the Prime Minister of New Zealand and demand “the United States of America is going to be the best place in the world for a child to grow up,” was called out on social media for being utterly kooky.
McKinnon ran with that, opening her eyes wide and staring straight into the camera before launching into a pitch-perfect imitation of Williamson’s vocal cadence. The comedian imitated Williamson’s quirkiness, declaring “my plan is to gather all the sage in America and burn it. My plan is to harness the energy of babies to finally put a man on the moon…and I say to Donald Trump ‘boyfriend, you chill.'” She later declared Williamson “a star.”
McKinnon also took a few seconds to discuss fellow candidate Elizabeth Warren, who she’s already portrayed on Saturday Night Live. When looking at a picture of Warren’s debate attire, McKinnon said, “She looked like a girl on her wedding day when everyone who ever bullied her was getting a divorce.”
