With the rise of social media, a new tradition has evolved for national holidays. The day of, we all celebrate; the day after, we all furiously check Instagram to see how celebrities did it. This year, we’re peeking in on how celebs celebrated July 4 — and sharing our favorite photos from the ‘gram. This year, celebrities went all out in traditional red, white and blue, and shared some pretty spectacular snaps of their adorable kids enjoying the sun-filled day. There are fireworks, flags and celeb tots as far as the eye can see. Personally, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate our independence.

While every holiday is a great opportunity to spend time with loved ones, July 4 is one of the best days of the year for wholesome family fun. It’s also one of the best days to get out on the water — and many celebs did just that, taking their kids to the nearest beach or lake. Many celebs’ captions emphasized what we celebrate on July 4: freedom and family, two things it’s important not to take for granted. While some celebrities celebrated America outright in their captions, most focused on the values that the holiday represents, and how grateful they are to be spending it among those they love the most.
