It was a big day for the monarchy’s littlest royal! On Saturday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released baby Archie’s christening photos — and, not surprisingly, the snapshots from the special event are truly beautiful. Bonus? They also feature the first full look the world has gotten of little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s face.
The christening took place in Windsor on Saturday in a private ceremony. A few hours later, as promised earlier in the week by Buckingham Palace, the professional photos of the occasion taken by photographer Chris Allerton were released. Making them even more special, of course, was the fact that the setting was the Green Drawing Room at Windsor — the same space used for some of Harry and Meghan’s wedding photos. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose the location because they “wanted an intimate, peaceful setting in a place with such a special connection to Her Majesty,” a source reportedly told People.
To commemorate the milestone moment, Harry and Meghan took to @sussexroyal, their official royal Instagram account, to share a few two photos. In the first, Meghan holds baby Archie in her lap as Harry sits next to her on an emerald green settee. Surrounding the Sussex family are Prince Charles and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland; Prince Diana’s sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes; and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Harry and Meghan expressed gratitude to the public in the caption, saying, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment.”
The Sussexes also touched on some of the details of the private ceremony — with specific emphasis on baby Archie’s ensemble. “Their son, Archie, was baptized wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. The original Royal Christening Robe, made of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and first worn by her eldest daughter. It was subsequently worn for generations of Royal christenings, including The Queen, her children and her grandchildren until 2004, when The Queen commissioned this handmade replica, in order for the fragile historic outfit to be preserved, and for the tradition to continue.”
While Queen Elizabeth couldn’t attend the christening due to a prior engagement, her presence was undoubtedly evident in both the location and tradition of the day.
